The GEMM Protocol is a clinical strategy to prevent and treat acute and chronic disease at its cellular origins and aims to re-establish each patient’s unique gut ecology, by supporting the growth, development and diversity of the microbiota.

The gut is now widely considered to function as a metabolic organ which plays a primary role in human immunity. A major contributor is the close interrelationships among five key elements – the Intestinal Epithelium and its overlying mucous membranes (IEFC), its underlying Immune cells, the Gut microbiota, the Capillary bed and the Neural networks that enable communication from the gut to other body systems.

Gemmune ImmunoBiotic (Gemmune I.B)  simultaneously enhances immune, digestive and metabolic functions by targeting the gut immune interface.

GEMMUNE I.B. – the Concept of the Immunobiotic

The healthy microbiome represents a diverse array of over 1000 unique commensal microbial species; by contrast, a probiotic supplement provides just a few.
On the other hand, an Immunbiotic is a modified probiotic standardised for its content of immune-signalling molecules and is typically heat-killed at the peak of its bioactivity.

Gemmune I.B. is an immunobiotic derived from Lactobacillus plantarum HKL-137, a heat-killed, stabilised strain, standardised for its high content of Lipoteichoic Acid (LTA).
When LTA binds to the toll-like receptor (TLR2), it initiates a signalling cascade that activates a significant immune response (Figure 2). Modifying the gut environment in this way to foster the growth of the commensals allows an individual’s gut ecology to be restored using the same principles employed by Nature.

Lactobacillus plantaram HKL137 (LP20) (50 mg/day)

• Potent source of Lipoteichoic acid (LTA)
• Stimulates TLR2, modulating tight junctions
• Induces IL-12 to induce Th1 response
• Enhances both INNATE and ADAPTIVE immunity
• Reduces Upper respiratory tract infection
• Reduces periodontal probing depth
• Downregulates inflammation and undesirable responses to allergens

Fucus Vesiculosis extract (deiodinated) (117 mg/day)

• Increases synthesis of secretory IgA
• Downregulates gut and systemic pro-inflammatory cytokines IL-8 and TNF-a
• Enhances gut barrier by upregulating tight junction protein, Claudin-1
• Inhibits adherence of H.pylori

Grape Seed polyphenols (90%) (600 mg/day)

• Source of prebiotic nutrition for commensals
• Reduce oxidant burden of food
• Downregulate pro-inflammatory cytokines
• Increase mucin synthesis and sigA

NOTE:  Polyphenol metabolites promote metabolic health

Citrus reticulata (40% bioflavonoids) (500 mg/day)

• The peel is uniquely rich in polymethoxylated flavones
• Quenches ROS in gut lumen
• Reduces inflammation markers
• Conversion of naringenin to naringin enhances gut barrier
• Beneficially promotes gut T reg cells

Dose:   The standard dose of Gemmune I.B is 1 capsule twice daily with meals.
